Popular Misconceptions about Sports Massage

Posted by Paul on January 7, 2011 with 0 Comments

There are many misconceptions about what sports massage is and how it can benefit the individual.

Firstly, a sports massage is not just a rubdown.

In fact, a sports massage has an impact on almost every single major system in the body. This means that anyone can benefit from a sports massage.

Here’s something else that most people don’t realise…

Sport massages can be performed pre event, post event and inter-event.

The pre event massage will keep the person relaxed and prepared for the event.

The post event sports massage helps to flush out the excess waste produced in the body during the exercise or event. This alone greatly helps to reduce muscle soreness and stiffness.

Another misconception revolves around training.

Many people have been led to believe that the more you train the better you will become.

In many cases this is wrong. Muscles become harder as they are trained and therefore lose their elasticity and flexibility.

A sports massage will help your muscle tissues to stretch and ensure they receive the right nutrient blood flow that they need.

As you can see, there is far more to a sports massage than a simple rub.

So, if you want to gain the benefits listed above, then think about getting a sports massage in the near future.

If you want the same benefits without seeing a therapist, you can use this powerful hand held massager on a regular basis.

Posted by Paul on December 2, 2010 with 0 Comments

Did you know that a pre event sports massage can drastically increase your performance in any sports or activity?

If not, then you need to read the rest of this short post.

Here’s how this works… A sports massage done before your event lets your muscles relax and also gives relaxation to your mind.

As you know, mental stress is common and can severely derail a good performance.

A sports massage will create a sense of readiness in your muscles, which means you are more prepared and likely to perform at your best.

In order to get best results, the sports massage should be conducted about fifteen to forty five minutes before the event.

This will increase the blood flow in the main muscle groups that you will be using.

The key here is to pay particular attention to the main muscle groups involved in whatever event or exercise you are doing.

Besides the massage giving you an increased level of performance, it will also reduce the chance of injury.

So, next time you are thinking of exercising or competing, try a sports massage just before the event. You will be pleasantly surprised with the results.

A self-massage tip for runners

Posted by Paul on November 1, 2010 with 0 Comments

If you enjoy running or compete in sports that put a lot of pressure on your legs, then this tip is going to be very helpful for you.

Not only will it reduce the likelihood of injury, it will increase your flexibility, reduce stiffness and enable your leg muscles to recover much faster than usual.

While this is great for runners, it is also perfect for cyclists, skiers, footballers, tennis players, golfers and anyone else using leg power in their sport or exercise.

Here’s what you can do…

Focus on your quadriceps. These are the muscles of your upper leg. They are made up of four distinct muscles in the front of your thigh.

They take a lot of the load, so giving them a massage will keep them very strong and injury free.

You can use simple sports massage strokes to quickly ease tension.

The best strokes to use are the glide (with your palms). Next, use the heels of your hand and apply more pressure.

From here you can squeeze your quads with the heels of both hands (with fingers interlocked). This will bring more blood into the muscles.

Next, you can use the elbow to get deeper into the muscle and remove tension.

From here, you should do some drumming with your fists. This is the final step in the process.

These are some very basic stokes that will help to ease any tension and let the muscles relax. You will also remove and break up any knots that have been created in the muscle.

One last thing… It’s important that the movement is done from the knee to the top of the leg. This ensures that blood is moving towards your heart.

That’s it. A simple self-massage technique to let your quadriceps get some relief and let you recover much faster.

All the best,

Paul
